Background Info

My name is Matthew Teigen. Rollover pics above are me. This is also me. This was me. Contact me here. Here is a list of some favorite music. Several years ago I made a tribute page to Katy, my dog who died very young. You can go back home if you want.

WARNING: The following is self-report.

I'm going to keep this somewhat short, because I find that every time I put some text down here, within a few months I end up hating it. Last time I went on for a page and a half about how I was uncool in high school.

Writing an "about me" page, biography, or personal statement is not something everyone is comfortable doing, but on the other hand there exist web-egos who like nothing more than to mount their e-Soapboxes and go "ME ME ME ME ME" for a few hundred words.

In fact, I enjoy reading other people's "about me" pages.

If some artist or scientist has built a site detailing groundbreaking research, I'll ignore it, go right to the "About Me" section, and read about his dog and fiancee.

I think that's what surfers would like the web to be about, in a way -- people. It might be refreshing to reach out electronically across the barren void and find another human being, or at least his footprint. That said, I can still see "about me" pages as distasteful afronts to proper information; I guess it depends on what you're looking for.

"About me" pages feel like throwbacks to the 1990s, when we saw a lot of "WELCOME TO MY WEBPAGE" and "UNDER CONSTRUCTION." They harken to an era when there were "webmasters", and more amateurs and volunteers. Now there are only exponentially-multiplying Wordpress blogs trying to make money with Google ads and "Digg this!" buttons.

I'm just some guy living in North America.
